Pam Warren is remembered as a Bay Area hip-hop legend and a true DJ icon. She leaves behind an impressive artistic legacy, including numerous classic mixes. In 2018, the Purple Pam Foundation was established to manifest her vision of supporting female DJs in the music industry. The Foundation has established two annual scholarships for up-and-coming female DJs, with the support of The Recording Academy’s San Francisco chapter.
The mix you’re about to hear, titled “BASS Bay Area Rap,” shows Pam at her best. It was recorded at Youth Radio in 2010 and, as the name suggests, features an all-Bay Area list of artists, including Too Short, E-40, Keak Da Sneak, Nump, Mistah FAB, The Delinquents, Richie Rich and Turf Talk. Turn it up loud, go dumb, and put one in the air for Purple Pam the Funkstress, the Turntable Queen! Thank you Sway in the Morning/Shade 45 for sharing this mix!
